Why this blog? Why now?

National attacks against diversity, equity and inclusion, the teaching of true history, race-conscious education, and gender justice are harming our communities.

• Any time we advance justice for historically oppressed people we see a backlash. This is just the latest example of pushback when we make progress in creating equitable communities.

• We are speaking up to protect the lives, voices, and work of families, educators, and community leaders, who are standing up against cyberbullying, harassment, hate speech, and threats of violence in schools and in our cities.

• We are fighting to protect progress and create a world where everyone’s history and culture is valued and children and families can create a true multi-racial democracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are we?

We’re a coalition of families, educators, artists and activists fighting to ensure Black, Indigenous, and Non-Black people of color, disabled students and parents, and LGBTQ families have a voice in our schools and communities.

What are our goals?

Share strategies to nurture resistance and resilience against dehumanization and fascism.

  • Celebrate efforts of local communities who are creating safe and just spaces where children and families learn, play, and thrive.
  • Protect Black, Latine, Native American, and other non-Black people of color and LGBTQ communities who are under attack nationally, and locally. (Includes history, language and culture)
  • Uplift resources to educate our youth and our communities so we can co-create a multi-racial democracy where everyone can thrive.

Our Purpose:

Educate and Empower Families with Truth and Justice

Political opportunists are colluding to dismantle schools, libraries and safety nets. We must work together to protect vulnerable communities, and the local leaders and institutions they rely on to survive and thrive.

  • Academic freedom is under attack—books are being banned, true history is being erased
  • Hate speech is on the rise in schools and communities. We are inundated with dehumanizing narratives promoted by social media feeds and mainstream media
  • Families want to protect their children and ensure they are learning true history. They want their children to feel valued and visible in the curriculum, and think critically about the world around them.
  • Communities can no longer rely on schools to provide equitable education. Communities must organize to protect progress and ensure future generations learn accurate history celebrating the resilience and contributions of all our communities.

Center Joy and Liberation

Tech bros, dictators and Christian nationalists are selling us a dystopian future grounded in settler-colonial thinking, in which we are controlled by algorithms that pit us against one another and sorted into silos: “us vs. them.” We reject this worldview, believing that if we collectively work together with creativity, empathy and curiosity, we can co-create a world that nurtures and sustains us all.

  • Our leaders are not in congress or City Hall—they are among us. We protect us! This blog is a space to celebrate the small and meaningful ways folks are creating solidarity, uniting across difference and building networks of community care.
  • Our bodies are under attack, thus our liberation will only come with fully embodied joyful, messy, human work. We reject AI and the dehumanizing idea that technology makes us “less than”. Technology is only a tool. We celebrate embodied ways of knowing and doing that defy compartmentalization and colonization.
  • We believe in inspired genius, joy, creativity and love. We celebrate ourselves, our varying perspectives and what makes us all beautiful, imperfect and unique. (wabi-sabi) Art and language are culture. Dance and poetry are healing. Touching grass is good for you.
