What types of content are we looking for?

Topics include cultural critique, media literacy, PK-12 education, community building, social justice education, ethnic studies , Black history, LGBTQ rights, deconstructing patriachy and settler colonialist capitalism.

  • Audience: Parents, aunties, mentors, professional and community-based educators, artists and activists who care about protecting history, vulnerable communities and our democracy 
  • Types of content: how-to guides, opinion pieces, reviews, cultural critiques, perspectives, advice, creative non-fiction

What is the preferred writing style?

Preferred writing style is friendly, informal, conversational, knowledgeable, humorous, irreverent and direct. 

  • Articles should be written like FB posts to friend groups or text threads to a friend. This blog is “for us, by us” to share information and celebrate successful practices. 
  • Where possible, use active voice, avoiding jargon, and chose simplicity over complex sentence structure. This is not an academic paper. It’s smart but readable. 

How do I submit articles?

What about ownership and compensation?

Authors retain sole copyright of submitted content. Content will not be used or repurposed by the publication.

At the current time, we are not able to pay writers for submissions. Once we have a dedicated list of subscribers, we would like to pay contributors a flat fee per article.
